How To Save on Summer With the Kids

May 26, 2022

It’s May, which means your kids and grandkids will be out of school for the summer soon. How can you keep them busy this summer without breaking the bank?

We have some affordable ideas in the Arlington-Mansfield area.

 Summer Camps

The City of Arlington and City of Mansfield both offer a huge online catalog of reasonably priced summer camps. Arlington Parks and Recreation has camps for everything from sports to cooking and science to gaming. Mansfield Parks and Recreation offers camps for sports, art, chess, dancing, science, gaming and more.

 Free Bowling

Register your kids for two free games of bowling every day at Alley Cats Entertainment Center through the national Kids Bowl Free program. You still have to pay for shoes, but the bowling is free.

  UT Arlington Planetarium

Take the kids to explore space from the comfort of your hometown, all for less than $10 a person. You can buy tickets online.

 Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse

DFW-area Cinemark theaters are showing children’s movies for eight weeks from June to August this summer. They are only $1.50 per person to see these films. Watch “Angry Birds,” “Sing 2” and “Scoob” (to name a few) at bargain prices!

Mansfield Historical Museum and Man House Museum

There’s no better way to learn Mansfield’s history than free trips to these museums. Your kids can see how Mansfield residents lived when the city was founded and learn about Mansfield’s founder, Ralph Man.

River Legacy Park and Living Science Center

Explore the outdoors with your kids when you go to River Legacy Park in Arlington. Walk the trails, bike or have picnics for free. When you’re ready to learn more, head to the Living Science Center and tour their atrium exhibits for free as well. The only thing with a price tag is entry to the Center’s Discovery Room, and these tickets are $5 or less.

 Texas Rangers’ Tickets

It sounds crazy, but not every Ranger’s ticket costs an arm and a leg. Rangers’ tickets start as low as $9 a person, and you can get some seats behind home plate for as low as $13. Buy tickets online, and take the family out to a ball game.

Edventure Camp

This camp is held at Spirals Gymnastics Gym in Mansfield, but it offers campers a lot more than gymnastics. It teaches kids how to set personal goals and has award ceremonies when they achieve them. You can enroll your kids in affordable daily or weekly programs, which include ball sports, rock climbing, leadership challenges and more.
