Scammers are stepping up their tactics, and a recent incident at another Dallas-area credit union validates just how bold they are getting. Recently, an elderly member of that credit union was targeted by a scammer posing as a credit union employee. This scammer didn’t just speak to the member by phone. He actually showed up at the member’s home to pick up a debit card, claiming it needed to be replaced. He said he would bring back a new one, but of course, the card was used for fraud instead.
We have also seen troubling reports of scammers using GPS tracking and intimidation tactics against people. This is a whole new level of danger, and we are education you so you can keep yourself and your identity safe.
Please remember: Credit union employees will never come to your house to pick up your cards, cash, or sensitive information. We also will never call you to ask for it.
How to Protect Yourself
